What nitrogen gas bottle size do you need?

The rule of thumb when determining nitrogen gas bottle sizes is to buy the biggest bottle you can handle to limit the amount of refills you will need. There is now greater availability on the market for customers to choose the nitrogen gas bottle sizes they require, compared to when suppliers only offered the traditional D and G sizes. However, this increase in variety has made it confusing for some customers who do not know which nitrogen gas bottle sizes they require to ensure they can complete their jobs. Below we outline some things to consider to help you determine whether our C, D, E or G size nitrogen cylinders are best for you. How much volume do you require for your nitrogen gas bottle? The smallest nitrogen cylinder we stock here at Rent Free Gas is C, followed by D, E, and G as the largest. In comparison, a D cylinder has a volume of 1.7m3 and a weight of 20kg, whereas a G cylinder has a volume of 8.7m3 and a weight of 80kg. So if you can work out your flow mate required, or if you know the volume & pressure required of the tyre you would like to fill, the volumes of each cylinder above should help you. Shelf-life of nitrogen Since nitrogen is a non-reactive gas mixture and is usually filled in steel cylinders, your nitrogen gas bottle should, generally, have a shelf life of at least three years. This should be taken into consideration when deciding how much volume you actually require and which nitrogen gas bottle sizes you need. Do you need to move the cylinders? This is an important safety consideration as large nitrogen gas bottle sizes are difficult to handle and transport, weighing up to 80kg. If you need to travel from location to location to complete welding works, then it is important you have nitrogen gas bottle sizes that can be easily moved and will [...]

Where can I purchase nitrogen gas?

When it comes to the question of where to get nitrogen gas, you can't go past Rent Free Gas. Renting a cylinder may seem like the obvious option, but think about it – do you really want to be paying every month for something that might sit in your shed for a year? Rent Free Gas is where to get nitrogen gas cylinders that are yours to keep. Where does nitrogen come from? Every time you breathe, you're inhaling mainly nitrogen. Where to get nitrogen gas? It's literally everywhere! Nitrogen makes up almost 80 percent of the earth's atmosphere. Where to get nitrogen gas for your projects Nitrogen may be everywhere, but we know that's not what you're really thinking. The question really is 'where do I get nitrogen gas so I can use it for my DIY, commercial and industrial applications?' Before we can recommend where to get nitrogen gas at great prices and without even paying for delivery in metro areas, let's take a look at how that nitrogen gets in the cylinder in the first place. How nitrogen gas gets in those cylinders The process of extracting nitrogen from the air and separating it for you to use is called 'fractional distillation'. First, the air is filtered so that particles like dust are removed. Next, it is cooled in several different stages until it reaches the temperature of minus 200 C. At this temperature, 'air' is not really 'air' anymore – it's liquid. When that air turns into liquid, water vapour is removed with absorbing filters. At about minus 80 C, C02 freezes, so that's easy to remove. And because oxygen turns into liquid at a slightly warmer temperature than nitrogen, it's not too hard to separate them. Nitrogen gas from Rent Free Gas The most common use of our nitrogen gas cylinders is welding, and it's great for purging and blanketing but it's also a great way to reliably and efficiently inflate [...]

Use a nitrogen gas supply for your car’s tyres

Nitrogen. We've all heard of it, but did you know car enthusiasts use it every single day? Let's run through a nitrogen gas supply Q&A session regarding a use for this handy gas that you may never have even thought about: pumping up your car tyres.   Q: Nitrogen gas supply for car tyres is really a thing? A: Yes! Although most common in high performance tyres, such as aircraft and racing cars, many people use a nitrogen gas supply to inflate their road car tyres.   Q: Is nitrogen gas supply for my car even safe? A: Yes! Nitrogen is quite a safe gas as it is inert – in fact, it's one of the most commonly used chemicals in the world and makes up 78% of the earth's breathable atmosphere.   Q: That's right: didn't I hear that nitrogen gas supply is used with food? A: Correct. Nitrogen gas supply is used for packaging and storing food and other things like coffee.   Q: But why would I use nitrogen gas supply for my car's tyres? A: Although it is often used in racing cars and aircraft for running temperature reasons, a big benefit in everyday use is that it will keep the inflation of your tyres more consistent. So you need to check them less often!   Q: But I've heard that tyres inflated by nitrogen should be at a different pressure to what is ordinarily recommended for my car. Is that right? A: No – whether or not you use a nitrogen gas supply to inflate your tyres, stick with those normal recommendations. But what you will notice is that your tyres stay at that inflation level for longer.   Q: I've heard that I need to dilute the nitrogen gas supply with air – is this right? A: That's not right. The whole point of using nitrogen is that you get the full benefits of a nitrogen gas supply without all the other elements of normal 'air'.   Q: But [...]

Speedgas Bottles – Outright Cylinder Purchase Made Easy

When Speedgas floated the concept of outright welding bottle ownership over 10 years ago, many in the industry thought they were bonkers. Customers on the other hand, sick of being shafted by the ever increasing rental squeeze welcomed the concept and within a short time, and after much fanfare on the many forums dedicated to welding and engineering projects, the Speedgas brand became part of the tradie vernacular. Over the years Speedgas products have expanded beyond Argon and Argon Mix gases to also include Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, Nitrogen, Helium, Special Gas Mixtures and those awesome blue go fast cylinders full of Nitrous Oxide. There are now many smaller gas suppliers lurking in the shadows of Speedgas' success but what is it that the Speedgas brand has, or even does, that the others are lacking and thus preventing their own market success? Firstly, it is gas. Sounds simple enough but a gas supply company needs guaranteed and dependable supplies of bulk gas. Customers won't invest a couple of hundred dollars into a gas cylinder if the gas supply is flakey. Speedgas is a bulk gas supplier, that is another way of saying they own their own filling infrastructure and fill from an initial liquid state on site in their two manufacturing facilities based in Sydney. What do Speedgas do that makes them a beacon of shining light and bringer of joy to welders? Speedgas use bulk liquid supply which is vaporised on site then used to fill empty cylinders. Is an approved cylinder testing facility. Have Australian approval and Australian valves. Have been in the welding industry for over 20 years Have invested millions into plant, equipment and a sustainable cylinder refill system So what do the others do that is not the best long term practice? They may decant from G size cylinder packs supplied by the larger gas companies. The very ones that only offer rental cylinders. When the big boys pull the plug, your cylinder is worthless. They may export [...]
